Requirements

• Exceptional proficiency using HTML/CSS/Javascript/AJAX in a production environment
• Demonstrated expert understanding in design and UX
• Personal projects and/or portfolio that shows your aptitude to create great applications
• Prototyping abilities in Photoshop or other tools
• Familiarity with client-side MVC frameworks. We use Backbone, but experience with others is fine too (Ember, Angular, etc)

UI Designer

We're looking for a passionate senior designer to join our team full-time. In this position, you will work closely alongside engineers and product directors to take something complex and make it simple. You should be comfortable leading the design process for a product that is used by non-technical, diverse audiences on six continents. You'll be responsible for designing an unbeatable user experience from ideation to implementation, throughout our entire product.

To design for usability, you will need to constantly put yourself in the mind of a language learner. Our users are extremely passionate about using Verbling to become fluent in a foreign language, and while they are more patient than Internet users in general, they're also less tech-savvy than the early adopters of many Silicon Valley startups.

We're open to contract work, but no agencies or recruiters please.

• Speed. Expert at rapid prototyping and development.
• Funnels. Data-driven metrics understanding. Best is a strong design intuition coupled with an analytical discipline.
• Empathy. You understand people's confusion and pain points, then take a user-centric approach to designing solutions.
• Boldness. You don't fear experiments that are drastically different from our current design.
• Skill. Jaw-dropping Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks mockups.

• You understand the implications of your design from an engineering implemenation standpoint.
• Cross-localization adjustment. We support many languages, and the design needs to adjust accordingly.
